don't be fooled--
the sky is not static.

there is an infinity between any
two points,
infinite hex codes
between the bounds of the spectrum--
infinite blues.

this is the great secret of the universe, this
cosmic light show
we can't detect--
the changes too small for our
wondering
wandering eyes.

perhaps there is someone out there--someone else
who notices
even if he cannot see.

and perhaps
his blue
is not my blue--perhaps it all comes down
to perception,
to the chemicals
electrical impulses
the spin of individual molecules that all add up to become
blue.

our own blue.

maybe it's all on us.
maybe
the cosmos isn't trying because, really--
if i were the cosmos
i would have better things to do.

maybe there is something
beautiful
in that.
in us.
in our ability to overanalyze
and oversimplify--our ability
to realize we know nothing
and forget
and try again, anyway.
Wheeee stream of consciousness.

It just makes me want to go spend a night under the stars pondering the universe...

Wow, lovely. I agree, it's got a bit of a stream-of-consciousness feeling to it, but you're speaking about a very real kind of thought process that I've gone through myself, so I really liked this.

"maybe
the cosmos isn't trying because, really--"
That line was gorgeous.

A part of me kind of wanted it to end right with "maybe there is something / beautiful / in that."
But then again, "try again, anyway" is a great last line too, so, who knows? :)

Thanks so much!

Oh god I'm still struggling with that. "something beautiful in that" ends it real nicely but there's something about that last little thought that I like... :shifty:

it has a nice sound of conversation, that rhythm of thinking out loud.

maybe there is something
beautiful
in that.
in us.

--I like this breakdown the most. perfect pauses.

interesting thoughts as well. perception is a fascinating topic. I mused on it a lot last year. it was overwhelming at times because I realized we are blind to so much.
but then, like you said here more elegantly, we get caught up in our tiny vision tunnel and forget how vulnerable we are.

Perception is insane. Always leaves you with more questions than you started with.

*raises glass of Coke* (because that's what I'm drinking right now)

For blue!
For the simple yet complicated things!
For the thoughts that wake us in the middle of the night!
For the sudden realization that we exist and we do not, all at the same time!
And for inspiration and words, of course.

I can't explain why rereading this bit made my heart ache just a lil more. You take my breath away with your ability to mold words and make it that "it" can be read so effortlessly. I apologize if I'm not making any sense at all.

I enjoyed this, stream of consciousness or not.

I was trying to write a poem yesterday about pigments and how we percieve color but the word pigment is just so unflattering I couldn't make it work.

Ah, pigment. It's sad when concepts that beautiful have names that don't do them justice.
